The commission
Ash was the obvious choice the moment bending entered the conversation — it has been the standard timber for steam-bent and laminate-bent chair backs for two centuries precisely because it takes a tight bend radius without the fiber tearing that ruins a less flexible species. The back rail is built from thin laminations bent over a form and glued under clamping pressure, giving a bend far tighter and more consistent than a single steamed piece could reliably hold.
Seats are a woven paper-cord drop-in design, replaceable by the client without a shop visit as the cord ages.
