The commission
A 12-foot solid slab was never a realistic option at this width without a seam every few feet, so the top is a torsion-box core — two skins of mahogany-veneered ply over an internal grid — edged in three-inch solid mahogany with mitred corners, and faced with a bookmatched mahogany veneer flitch across the full field. The stability of a mahogany core meant we could hold true flat across 12 feet without a center leg, which the client specifically wanted so nobody would be stuck behind a table leg during a deposition.
Legs are a sliding-dovetail pedestal design in solid mahogany, finished with a catalyzed conversion varnish for the chemical and heat resistance a working conference table needs.
