Overlook Hotel Lobby Millwork

A curved teak reception desk and surrounding lobby paneling for a boutique hotel, built to withstand a high-traffic public space with doors open to a coastal climate.

The commission

A coastal hotel lobby with doors opening near-constantly to the outside air is one of the harder humidity environments we build for, and teak's natural oils and correspondingly low published shrinkage figures made it the clear choice over a more conventional lobby-millwork species. The reception desk's curved face is bent-laminated teak veneer over a curved substrate, bookmatched across the curve so the grain reads as continuous rather than pieced.

Brass reveal strips separate panel sections both as a design detail and as a practical expansion joint, letting adjoining panels move independently without ever telegraphing a crack through the finish.
